Built on a Lifetime
of BMW Passion
David Greenwood began his automotive career in 1968, trained by former Volkswagen of America instructors right here in San Antonio. When he was introduced to BMW in 1973, it wasn't just a new marque — it was a calling. In October 1980, David opened RhineWest with a singular focus: BMWs, done right.
From the beginning, David refused to treat diagnostic equipment as optional. In 1997 he acquired BMW's factory Modic II diagnostic platform — and upgraded with every successive generation as BMW advanced their technology. In 2009, RhineWest became only the second independent shop in the entire United States to invest in BMW's ISIS system, with a live connection to BMW Germany for real-time updates, service bulletins, and diagnostic pathways. That commitment to factory-level tooling has never wavered.
Today RhineWest operates on BMW's current ISPINext platform — the same system used by authorized dealers worldwide — and has called its Broadway location home for over 30 years. The team averages 11 years of tenure, with some members spanning three decades of service alongside David's original vision.
In May 2025, RhineWest was acquired by Premier1 Auto Care. We are proud of what David built and deeply committed to preserving the expertise, the standards, and the culture that made this shop one of the most respected independent BMW specialists in the country — while bringing our customers expanded warranty coverage, enhanced amenities, and the resources of a premier auto care network.

Factory Diagnostic Tools Since 1997
